Workshop Outline:
Solution Focused Brief Therapy is inclusive and adaptable. One of the main principles of Solution Focused Brief Therapy is that it is client directed; and for this reason the approach can be used in many different contexts and among many different cultures. The client directs what they need and what is best for them – the therapist follows the client’s lead and helps the client to research their best hope.
Marcos Perez Lamadrid is a Bolivian psychologist that uses Solution Focused Brief Therapy with the indigenous people of Bolivia. Marcos believes that SFBT is culturally sensitive and can be adapted to suit the clients culture, beliefs and way of life. In the first part of this 2 part webinar, I will be interviewing Marcos on how he adapts the approach to suit the clients culture.
In part two of this webinar I will be interviewing Italian psychologist Jody Vagnoni. Jody sees himself as a travelling psychologist that is currently working in Bolivia. He presented a fantastic presentation on informal therapy at the September 2024 EBTA Conference. In this interview with Jody we will be discussing the difference between formal and informal therapy, we will look at his 4 steps of informal helpful conversations, namely Hope, Empowerment, Checking-in and Noticing.
Aims of the webinar:
- Learning the art of being respectfully curious
- Staying in a not-knowing stance
- Compiling a client directed tomorrow question
- Helping clients search for small instances of hope
- Helping the client envision the next small step
- Staying on the surface and creating a wider view
Outcomes of the webinar:
- Ask respectful questions
- Use the expertise of the client
- Formulate a tomorrow question filled with hope
