Workshop Outline:
Our children and families have had an incredibly hard three years. Due to the restrictions caused by the pandemic children and families have had to adjust to so many changes. Lockdown situations created incredible anxiety and academic barriers.
The constant wearing of masks reminds children that danger is always present and fear levels have increased. Families have lost control over how much screen time their children are consuming and how to discipline their children as social media has taken over. Unfortunately we all have to deal with a lot of anxiety, social phobias, learning barriers and social maladjustment’s, parental fatigue and family discord in our practices.
This full day workshop will be presented in 4 parts:
• Play therapy with young children and the difficulties
• Parental guidance techniques for parents with young children
• Therapy with teenagers and the difficulties they face in 2023
• Parental guidance for parents of teens
Aims of the workshop:
• Applying Solution Focused Therapy when working with families
• To illustrate principles of Solution Focused Play Therapy
• Adapting SFBT to working with teenagers
• To share creative ideas when working with children
• To empower parents
• Share Solution Focused parental guidance tips
Outcomes of the workshop:
On completion of the workshop the participants will be able to:
• Implement Solution Focused Play Therapy
• Apply SFBT in a creative way
• Adapt SFBT to working with teens
• Engage with parents
• Build collaboration between parent and child
• Utilise creative play therapy tools such as drawing, stories, puppets and treasure hunts
• Incorporate music, dream machines and goal setting into therapy
